My passenger wing mirror moves around quiet a bit and I think there is something broken inside but the glass is intact and there are only one or two small cracks in the housing. It was damaged with the previous owner and I was wondering is anyone can tell me how to take the mirror off the car? and then to access the mirror internals behind the glass?. I am going to see if I can do something to stop it moving around before taking the option of buying a new unit.

Hi,
To remove the mirror remove 2 or 3 bolts from the inside of the door, then you can get a slim screwdriver down the side of the mirror to undo the screws at the back. I tried to remove the glass before doing this, but its not easy. The glass is held in by the plastic wrapping around the rim of the mirror and a slotted velcro like pad. Dont be tempted to try and prize the glass out with anything metal, you will chip or crack the glass.

Theres not a lot you can repair inside to be honest, as the arm is made from a cast aluminium or something similar (and brittle)

I have a spare glass for a passenger side if you blow it!

Thanks Paul.
I had opened the 2 nuts on the inside of the door before but could not release the mirror, I didn't see the small screws on the inside.

Ive got the old mirror that was on my car, and have tried to repair the metal work inside, but the more i tried the worse it got, it is so brittle and even drilling it and plating it made it break in other places. I even tried some of that metal putty but still no luck.

It is nigh on impossible to get the mirror glass out with out breaking it. a head gun to soften the black plastic glass surround and then carefully prise but the wrong amount of pressure in the wrong place and it will crack.

My old mirror had a piece of Acrylic mirror in it so it was quite easy to pop that out and dismantle the mirror housing. Im told that a mirror glass for a Ford Ka is very similiar in shape to a Beat one.

Hi John,

Before I bought my beat some vandal had kicked the wing mirror off it, so I had it welded back together with aluminum and got glass from a ford escort or something like that and cut it to size. But I have the same problem as you now and ive just given up trying to fix it! let us know how you get on
