It's the prototype of the new machine to help women turn their cars around without having to do a 53 point turn... ;)

You know, stop, lower pole, rotate vehicle, raise pole, drive off...

Think they might have installed it upside down though... :help:

Ady.

P.S.

I'm not going to guess properly (well no one else is...) as I roughly know what you do Paul.

I would say it is a fast erecting electronic mast most probably purchased from a company called Clark Masts who are based on the Isle of WIght where I live. They make Fast erecting masts for all sorts of company and they are sold to the police, air-force, formula one teams.

Am I right?

Pretty much spot on robin, its a clark XT12 mast, thats 12m of pneumatic mast!

Its going to be a mast for mobile phones that can be placed anywhere, great for more coverage at events etc!

(if your on O2!)

Paul - just spotted this (how could I have missed it!).

Does that mean you have to have a raft of electronics in the LR as well? That would sure impose some weight restrictions.

There are some electronics in there, but not a vast amount really.

It actually will contain the same kit as in many 'street furniture' sites, these are the green cabinets at the road side with a fake lampost next to them.

Very low power (5w) and just there for capacity.

Also going to do some 'aerial' photography from it, so might get it down to JAE and do some pics of the beats from above!

Hope that means fixing a camera to it rather than you hanging on for dear life when it goes up!

Should be quite effective with a good wide angle lens. Do you have a camera with wireless?

We've got a few options to be honest,

We are looking at using a remote controlled pan and tilt and then a decent digital camera with the AV output fed back down a long lead so we can see what the camera is looking at. A butchered remote control feeds the controls (zoom, shutter etc) back up and then its 'smile'...click

I've got a cordless CCTV unit that might eliminate the need for a long lead, and it runs on batteries or 240v; receiver unit is 240v only. Sadly, it eats batteries, so it would be a brides nighty job and lots of batteries, even with an inverter for the receiver (which I also have).

This begins to sound like a "Fagin" - "I think I'll go and think it out again!"

Its no big problem to be honest, we have mains on board (a bloody great generator under the passenger seat off the power take off!)

We also have the facility for an external mains input.

We have to run 240v up to the pan and tilt unit anyway, so powering a camera is no biggy.

Andrew- roll bar!! hehe would also self right if it fell over!

I suspect a pole vault would be quite likely if you flipped with this up!

Paul - I was thinking of the CCTV as a guide to where your camera was pointing, unless you have the means to see a live feed from it.
