flippin eck - good work! forgive my dumbness, but does that now work as your main radio/cd as well?

No, it's just a screen not a head unit.

It's a pretty good place to put a single din head unit if anyone fancies the work, the only thing is you'd have to extend the wiring harnesses, do something with the hole where the HU currently is and sacrafic the heater vent on the passenger side (had to remove the feed to the vent to fit the screen).

ahh icic! i think im gonna switch the main unit for a normal single din with some kind of dash-destruction and hacksawing. ill deffo consult you beforehand for some tips on the re-trimming! has the fabric and paint you bought when you first did it been ok over time?

The only painted bits are the dash pods and they didn't take a liking to being dragged around the concrete floor of the garage so had to be resprayed, but all the fabric has held up really well.

cool - ill pick your brain later about how best to apply the fabric :D taa very much for the info - you really need to be promoted to some kind of guru status on this messageboard now :D

I think 'resident hooligan' would be more appropriate :suicide:

I appreciate your work, but I think there's something special to keeping a Beat original. Sorry but I'm 22,000 miles in and restoring originality.
some friends have called it my 'modern MG'....................I see that as a compliment ????????????

Been there, seen it, done modifying (my 1980 escort harrier was the best!!!!) but Beat's are different, born to be original, but each to there own......

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I want to buy a white one to restore to it's original glory. Hopefully one day I will be able to afford to.

i kind of agree with mylee that there is something special about beats and that in itself is a strong arguement for keeping them original. they definitely deserve to be cherished and preserved as a modern classic. maybe we should all save up and get 2! :D

however i also think what em has done with hers is pretty amazing, especially given the complications of finding parts etc and her great commitment and DIY skills. i think sourcing genuine tuning and understated modfication parts from respected japanese companies is a long way from the usual uk modding attrocities!
personally i love seeing the modified japanese beats - what those guys do with the levels of detail etc and the DIY ethos is very inspiring.
i guess thats whats great about the uk club tho - for such a small community theres a pretty wide range of cars and people. everyone has their own tastes and thats wot makes it interesting! maybe there should be a gallery thread made - theres not actually many pics of members cars anywhere...

sorry! very rambling post!
oh - have u got any pics of your 1980 escort mylee? would love to see! :D
