That was the noise that I was making all the way back to scotland when i picked up my beat just south of London.

500 Miles of sheer fun!

Face was absoloutely agony by the time i got home from smiling.
Jaw hasnt hurt that much from smiling since i got married!!

Anyway just thought id register and get in on all the action as i have been waiting to buy one of these cars for about 7 years now. I suppose i got incredibly lucky as mine is the one that was on Autotrader with the hardtop.

On the way home i had an indicated reading of 105mph on my speedo and i think with a longer straight it could have pushed 110. Has anyone else in the club managed anything faster?

I also have to ask you all if you can tell me whereabouts i can expand the wavelength of the stereo as it wont pick higher frequencys?

I am also in the future going to be looking for new rubbers for the hardtop, does anyone know of anywhere that can supply these?

In some of the past messages i remember someone talking about sticking a fireblade engine into the beat. Has this ever been done? How much would it cost? etc...
Cant help but think a Honda SP1 engine would sound absoloutely amazing blaring out the beat. All that V-Twin grunt would make it a real bit of fun.

If anyone knows of anywhere that is willing to give these conversions a go please post any info on here.

Just have to say again how much fun i am having and also say sorry to the supposed many people who were waiting for me to pull out of the sale!

:)

Welcome to the Mad House....

I know what you mean about the grin, I still have one whenever I find a nice piece of road to play on... (Had mine nearly 2yrs).

105Mph, that will mean the car has been de-limited then, I gather that the speedo is reading in Mph now also. (Factory Limit is 87Mph, 140Km/h)

You might want to have someone follow you and check the accuracy as sometimes they are a bit out.

The radio is an easy one, you just need a band expander, it plugs inbetween the aerial and the radio and moves the frequencys down the scale so that the radio can pick them up. The display will still be wrong as you can't change that, but the stations will be there.

Not sure about the Hardtop Rubbers but I'm certain someone will be able to help.

The engine conversions have been talked about now and again but I don't think any have been done (even in Japan). But to be honest, I think it would probably spoil the handling due to the change in weight distribution...

Glad you got what you wanted and, yes there was at leased 1 other (on here) who enquired about the car due to the hard top..

If you have any questions on the car (however silly they seem) then ask away as we're all here to help where we can.

What make hardtop is it??

If its a Mugen one then i think they use original door/window seals.

I could supply these but they are not cheap in the region of £300 for the set of 6 seals (3 parts each side)

As Adrian said, you need a frequency expander, available from many source doing japanese import cars.

The hard top isnt a Mugen item as far as i know. It has the name FALLS on the side of it.

The rubbers that i may need are for the rear window as either these arent large enough or the perspex screen isnt large enough as the fit isnt quite perfect. I am going to get the car resprayed and get the top sprayed to match the rest of the car. When i get this done ill ask about the window. If i dont get anywhere ill come back and ask you all for some help.

Once i get my hardtop sorted i was thinking of taking it to a fibreglass specialist and seeing if they could copy it. Does anyone know if these people would do this or am i just dreaming?? I think if someone could do it then there would be plenty of takers here? (As long as the price is right)

As for the engine conversions, I have just bought a mini magazine and some guy has stuck 2 Yamaha R1 engines in an old mini! thats right , count them 2....

The car makes a total of 320bhp and all this is delivered through the rear wheels. The worst thing about it is that the owner is only 21!!

I dont know about all of you out there but even half that power in the beat would be an absolute treat. Might give the company a call and make some enquiries.

Sometime in the near future i am going to get the cambelt replaced, does anyone have the part number so i can order it or does anyone know where i can get one from? I am also going to have to get the dizzy inspected as the last thing i want is the engine to go pop. Again the part number for this would be a great help.

Keep on beating.

Hi,

The hardtop (might it be FEELS??) idea sounds a good one, (at the right price...). Most fibreglass places would be able to copy it...

As for the cam belt and dizy, Steve M is the person to speak to, he works for a Honda dealership in kent and supplies people with parts that they need all over the UK.

If you do a search on here for DIZY then you should find the info on checking the batch number before paying out for a new one.

Still not sure about the engine transplant. BUT... it's your car and if it's what you want then the choice is yours, (worth the phone call anyway...)

Hope this helps

Adrian.

Ouija!

Congratulations!

I was one of the people who was 'waiting for you to pull out of the sale' - heheh! (thought I might see you around here before long!!)

But when I rung up and heard you'd put the deposit down without even seeing it, I thought - Blimey, that guy really knows what he's looking for and he just found it!'. I kept pestering a bit anyway, tho - on the off chance. That pic in Autotrader was the first beat I'd ever seen and immediately me and The Other Half were like 'Wow! What is that cute, car??'

I'm glad you got it after a 7 years (blimey - how many beats did you look at during that time, or was this the first one?)

And a hardtop *goes green with envy*. Enjoy!!! :D
Might see you around in a beat of my own some time...

You will probably struggle to get a window seal for a Hardtop, you may have to speak to some of the classic car restoration companies, they may be able to supply some thing similiar.

I work for a Honda dealer and can supply you with a Cambelt and distributor (if needed)

Cambelt is £35 inc P+p
Distributor (would have to check price)

Ouija,

I think there would be a few people interested in a replica hardtop. The trick is finding a good fibreglasser to make a copy. Maybe the club could get a few people to order to make it worthwhile?

Just some thoughts

Jason :)

PS I've had my Beat for almost two years and I'm still smiling.

if you're going to do a knock-off, why not a Mugen! I have seen some FEELS over here, the rumour runs that they rub in some places if you install a roll cage etc. Just a thought.

By the way, welcome!
