Hi.
Long story short I am a honda fan of sorts and compete in local speed hillclimb events in my CRX (pictured). Thins year i joined in with a crew of people travelling over to the nurburgring to have a blast.
During the week one of the guys mentions he has a honda beat. Not owned for long and it does not run. He has a few cars and felt this one he just hasn't the time for.
After our return from Germany (which was awesome btw) I called him up and went and had a look.
Tbh it may or may not be worth the effort but I felt so sorry for the little beat that I made him and offer and chucked it on the trailer. The bad news is that somebody has had various tried at electronics and there are random and disconnected wires everywhere

So. Not having much time myself to fiddle (I spend every Tuesday evening only on my cars) I have so far spent and hour and 30 minutes on her and have done / identified the following.

Compression 130 all cylinders. cold
Has spark (only checked 1 plug)
Fuel being sent to cylinders. Plugs wet.
Replaced the castle nut. Yes. That's castle nut holding the fuel line on which was spurting all over the place.
Attempted error code reading but no engine check light illuminates at all.

And here we are.
My next logical steps are
Reset/align ignition timing dizzy.
It should at least cough into life.
Check all engine earth's to identify why check light not working.

Any help or information I can get from you guys and this forum will be most welcome in the road to recovery for this little beat.

And here she is

Ah you got that in the end, regards the check engine light take the cluster off and see if the bulb has been taken out may be cause of not lighting up.

Rich in link below is breaking a yellow beat so if you need stuff like dash loom/engine loom to help sort the rats nest you have now then he'll have it still. Other than that I'd check the main relay by the ecu (both behind the passenger seat) to see if the solder has basically go dry and cracked, also open the ecu up to see if the capacitors haven't leaked or popped both of these issues will cause bad running and hard/non starting issues.

All the fuses are on the driver side footwell by your right knee could check those to and there are a handfull by the battery in the boot. IIRC the owner prior to the guy you had it off had the dizzy out to replace it chances are a combination of not putting the current one in right and the mess of wiring is causing your problems, either way all the best hope you get it sorted.

Thanks Gavin,
Thanks for the info
I will be checking bulbs and fuses soon,
I had already done a little research on leaking capacitors and have checked the ECU which looks perfect so far,
The fuel pump appears to be slightly intermittent so the main relay could have the dry joints.

im assuming at this stage that the dizzy have been fitted incorrectly, Is this a common mistake?.
I was just going to remove it and with cyl 1 at TDC fit the dizzy so that the rotor is inline with no 1 HT lead.

I have messaged Rich too so thanks for the heads up on that.

Just found this link so know what to do on the timing

So I am going to add to this thread as a kind of record to what I have done, whether it worked etc,

only had 20 minutes free so
Just removed rear cover from instrument cluster and as suspected, the bulb had been removed from the CEL so I pulled the battery bulb and fitted it into the CEL socket,

Reconnect Battery
Ignition on
CEL illuminates and then after a second goes out (that's good)
Ignition off

I bridged the SCC
Ignition on
CEL illuminates and stays on (Also good I think)

Next job,
Check mechanical timing and refit dizzy, and hopefully she bursts into life, :)
Then recheck the error codes, of which I expect there will many.

Ok. Some success and some more issues.

As suspected ignition timing was out.

But as I couldnt seem to see how to easily remove the cam pulley cover I just took a 50 50 chance. No cigar so back to tdc removed dizzy then 1 full turn of crank again. Dizzy back and into life she popped.

Actually runs really sweet athough not driven yet.

New issues
Error code 9. Will check continuity and resistance however I can't guarantee that I have the ignition timing back on because the tdc and the 20deg btdc are not visible on the flywheel due to surface rust.

Sooooo.
Anyone know the diameter of the flywheel marker or the circumferential distance the around the flywheel from tdc.
I was thinking of VERY CAREFULLY using a small wire brush (like a toothbrush size) to insert through the viewing hole to see if I can clean it up a bit. Any other ideas people. (That don't involve removing it all.)

Also.
Pump is intermittent and on tapping the relay it come back to life. Took relay to bits. All looks OK. Do I just realised solder the joints even if they look good.?

Many thanks.
