No you don't need to drop the engine, in fact I needed to take it off to pull the gearbox. Bit of a fiddle but isn't everything to do with the engine :)

If I remember correctly from my first Beat (9 years ago so I may be wrong) Honda used 2 different fittings for the front of the roof. The original was a Tenax fixing that was replaced on later models...
That was exactly the problem I had. Putting some non-hardning sealant behind the seals (in th 'V' channels they clip into) made a big difference.
especially in Cyprus - aircon is a must there in the summer!
