Hi All,
Another day, another challenge! Lots of smoke, much worse when the engine is warm. Low compression on cylinder 1, so the engine's coming out and depending on what's found, might need:
...
Just filled up for less than £1/litre!. Not only the cheapest tank for a decade but also the most economical:
18.5 litres, 355km. That's 54MPG.
No traffic, no jams, no stop/start. I don't know...
Hi All,
The check light's been on for 10 years with no problems and no error code (it did fade in and out for a while, at first) and now that's an MOT fail!
So I finally decided to do something...
Fixed!
The guys at pastparts said they'd need to see the cylinder to diagnose, so I asked my usual garage and they found a kit of parts which looked about right and cleaned it up themselves in...
Hi Guys,
Bleeding the clutch worked a couple of years ago (Clutch-going-going-gone!), but this time all I got was a pool of clutch fluid on the concrete!
Off goes the Beat to the local garage...
It worked! Back on the road :)
In case it helps other novices, here's how it all went...
First up, I tried to see the bleed nipple from inside the boot -no luck. Had a feel about as well and...
Thanks for all the replies and good advice.
It's off to the garage for me to get a big bottle of DOT4 and back home via the pet shop for some pipe. I'll start by topping it up and trying the bleed...
Hi Guys,
For the last couple of weeks, the clutch bite-point has been getting closer to the carpet. Yesterday, it was so far down that I couldn't get it in gear and now, the pedal's become really...
I was also 28 when I bought mine,
But that was in 1992! I've still got the silly big grin.
Wahoo! Back on the road just in time for the sunshine this weekend. It was a long, hard slog, but worth it. Silly big grin now firmly back in place
A huge thank you to everyone who helped, with...
Great, I'll ignore the sensor, particularly When Honda want £270 with delivery in January.
Turns out the bolt/spring/nut combo is in stock, delivered this week, £12 for a 5-pack. Result!
Massive, hearty thanks to both John and Gavin for all the help getting the parts for the rebuild -you guys have been brilliant! Bits now with the garage guys and they'll start on it next week. Soon...
The results are in! It looks as though the water pump collapsed, taking the cambelt and other bits with it. The good news (!) is that only the valves were damaged in the process.
So, I have a...
Thanks for the replies and advice. I'll check the dizzy at the weekend and then she's being properly looked at next week. I'll report back.
Stu -you may get that ECU yet, but it'll still have the...
I'd just cleaned inside and out, topped up oil & water and she'd sailed through the MOT, the sun came out, hood down.... but then...
Driving slowly and suddenly there was a noise like a small...
Thanks Paul, email on its way.
Paul, somehow missed your offer there -I'd rather give the cash to you than Maplin -is it worth your while sending them for a few quid?
Thanks for finding that, Paul. I'm guessing that the temperature ratings all have to be 105C and that those voltages are minimums.
I'm about to blow £2.70 at Maplins (and as much again in...
Hi All,
I fancy a little Easter project, so it's time to see if new caps will fix my check engine light 'always-on-but-no-fault-code' problem and maybe stop the amusing...
Hi Steve,
BIG thank you, as always.
Cheers! -Jc.
Hi All,
My alternator belt has snapped (great noise!) and the local dealer can get a replacement in... 4 weeks, from Japan. Not sure I can be Beat-less for that long, especially with the weather...
Heater knob, that is. The left hand one which controls the temperature.
Looking at the parts manual, it's 79581-SS1-003.
Anybody know the easiest/quickest/chepaest way to get a replacement?
...
Found the hi-res version!

Dude -don't sell the Beat!
I've had mine since '92 and fatherhood arrived 5 years ago. Everybody said '"it'll have to go!" -but I didn't listen, and I'm SO glad.
Now I've got a champion...
