a possible alternative for mounting double or single DIN head units

I'm not sure if it is possible to do but I was thinking that the rack and shroud thing from a toyota corolla could be used to mount a head unit in the top of the dash of the beat. They come in both double or single DIN the one in the pic below is a single DIN. I think they would look good if it would work. Post back with any thoughts.

The problem is there is a big thick metal bar running the width of the car just in the wrong place!

Someone tried it (who was it that cut a whole in his dash?)

Sorry to contradict Paul but that is just where I've fitted my single din unit. The bar is in the way if you cut the hole in the passenger side console.
I sliced down both sides of the lump in the centre of the dash, lifted it, put a din cage in there and fiberglassed it to give a raised dash. The radio is supported at the back by the centre vent ducting.
I was holding off on the pics until I had the seats done but I'll post a couple of the dash. You guys can let me know what you think of my color scheme

We must think alike cause I did the same thing Tim. I saw it done on a beat that came off the boat from Japan, so I covered the whole in the dash and started cutting into the center console.

    Thanks guys,
It's nice to get positive feedback. I took a bit of a gamble with the colours but it seems to work. The problem I have now is finding a third colour for doing trim. Needless to say when you get up close there are a few flaws and some beading is required for these as well as to highlight a few areas. What colour????
Does anyone have anything other than a Beat stereo that goes in the hole?

I'f your interested in mounting some gauges you could instal one of these
    http://www.rsmach.com/consol.html
or you can try and obtain the tray or what ever it is that comes in the beats without radios.
