hello everyone - new beat owner here - had it 2 weeks. I've just had a warning light come on - its top left below the engin check light - looks like a hot exhaust pipe - what is it please - and is it serious?? Alan

It’s the cathalic converter light. Its the big bubble in the middle of the exhaust(between the backbox and manifold). It means either it’s blocked up or disconnected.

Thanks for that - I had guessed it was the CAT - do you mean the sensor is disconnected? If blocked up can it be cleared or is it a new CAT ? Car has a few weeks warranty so will get as much done as I can.

Can I still drive the car ?

Well that light is suppose to warn you of it been blocked up. But I would check the 2 sensor cables if they are attached.

I have never seen anyone cleaning a cat and a new one its quite expansive. What milage is your car?

thats quite low so you shouldn't have any issues. I would say its fine to drive but check the wires on the cat.

The cars only done a 100 miles in the last year or so - would a good long run help clean up the CAT? Will check the sensor wires tomorrow - are they obvious?

One of our Beats has had this light on for well over a year and we have been told by the Honda dealer who maintains it that the sensor is faulty but will not make any difference to the running of the car. I understand from a friend who has a Daimler originally intended for the Japanese market that the part in question is a temperature sensor and is there as a requirement of Japanese law. As we don't have them fitted to British cars I would assume that if its running properly don't worry.
