Fit a regular size stereo head unit

This is a tricky job that I would not recommend unless you are pretty confident in fabrication/ cutting.
The plastic centre console looks at first to be the main issue but you will find the the metal bracket suppoting the dash structure is also to narrow to accept a regular size stereo.
The answer? An angle grinder, file, electric drill, craft knife and a ruler!

Using a couple of multi purpose metal straps from the hardware store to re-engineer the mounting points and centre console support. I made it so the lower mounting points use the plastic centre console screws to help streamline the install.

We also now have a nice large storage cavity under the head deck which helps satisfy my quest for space!

Sorry, some of the pics came out a bit blurry. I will see if I can do a bit better!

This plastic center console was already a bit tatty so I had no problem with taking a knife to it. May vinyl paint it or buy a new one eventually.

    Thumbs up

Good work, plus nice to see that the carpet has gone
(I remember the Trade Me photo's from the previous owners hack job!)

What are your plans for the lower section of the console?

I will have to make a box out of fibreglass or something. Will probably stay as is for sometime while I work on more pressing matters, (motor rebuild, legal wheels etc).

Might make a temp box out of dare I say "carpet"!
You wouldn't notice it as it would be internally mounted plus any items you place in it wouldn't rattle, ( quite important ).

Maybe some nice "Zebra skin" to match the floor mats?!
