    Engine cuts out

Any ideas please ? The engine starts and runs smoothly for a short distance and then cuts out and is more difficult to start.
After another very short distance the same happening.
My original problem was that the engine wouldn't fire at all.
I have since replaced TDC sensor, coil and distributor and had ecu checked and the engine fires , but I want to drive more than 5O yards !

sounds like an exhaust/cat issue. Blockage or collapsed cat causing it to suffocate maybe?

    'dry joint' on ECU?
something electrical breaking down when warm?

Difficult to diagnose from that discription.

How does it cut out? cough and struggles to idle? choke up and run rich? Just cuts as if the ignition is turned off?

When you try to restart, does the fuel pump prime when you turn ignition on?
does the engine light come on with igniton and go out with the click from the Main relay?

You need to determine if its related to fuel or Spark really.

Main relay, fuel pump, ECU are quite common items to fail.

Any Trouble codes stored if you bridge SCS connector?

    Engine dies

    Thanks Steve M
The engine just cuts out like ignition is switch off.
    No coughing or spluttering.
Fuel is coming through and electrics seem to be O.k.
Engine management light stays on however, as it did originally when car wouldn't start. On testing it indicated a fault with TDC sensor, which has been replaced.

Engine light coming on with Ignition, But not going out with a click after about 5 to 10 seconds points towards Fuel Pump Main relay.
Normally worse when engine is hot, Have a search on the board, there is quite a lot of information about Main Relay.

Just an advice, what about the ignition switch? Screwed with the ignition lock.
Wanna bet on, it`s time is over.

Otherwise, of course, I can get the old one off the car.
    Cheers.
